Snow Day :)

Can you see the speckles of snow dust in these photos? I guess that's all you need for a snow day in Charlottesville!

Mac's school was cancelled today due to a single cm of snowfall. We have been celebrating our snow day in the usual ways: we've stayed in our pajamas, watched some favorite TV shows, played outside and then come in for some warm hot chocolate.

I don't know why today has been so fun...it just has been! Every once in a while the kids ask, "Where's the snow?," but they don't seem to be too phased by it. They think it's fun just wearing the bulky snowsuits - snow or not!

And I love seeing Davey in his little snow suit, pushing the toy lawnmower around. So cute. Every time he pushes it off-road, he says, "Whoa! Whoa!," like he is really living on the edge. So funny.

Tuesday

Tuesday morning I heard a sweet sound coming from the boys' bedroom. I was cleaning up the kitchen after dropping Mac off at school, and I heard Corrie reading to Davey.

I walked down the hall and peeked in the room: they were both giggling and pointing to the silly animals in the book, Goodnight Gorilla. Davey thinks that book is so funny!

We had also stopped by Lowe's on the way home from Mac's school. Back in December we had to throw away our living room rug due to an unforeseen, double fish tank disaster. I guess I would have normally written a post about such a thing, but this time it was just too much - even for me. The floor has seemed pretty cold and empty to me since then.

A few days ago, I saw a rug at Lowes that I would normally never buy, but I sure loved it. I thought/prayed about it for a few days, and yesterday I decided to use some birthday money and gift cards and go for it!

At first I wasn't sure about it, but as the day went on, I loved it more and more - especially how much more cozy and homey it has made our living room. The kids love it too. I have been praying that God would make our home "a home," and I think He is doing a good job!

Poor Davey has been pretty sick, and I gave him a steamy shower to help clear out his nose. Afterwards, he followed me around for several minutes saying, "Mommy, up? Mommy Up? Mommy up Momma!"

I had to get dressed, brush my teeth, etc., so I kept asking him to wait. He kept repeating that same phrase while he waited, and he eventually turned it into a song and made a little dance to go with it! It was so funny and so very Davey-ish.

While Davey napped in the afternoon, Corrie played in her room and built an intricate block castle. I wish the picture could do it better justice! She told me that she wanted to show it to me, and then she was going to let Mac smash it.

Here is Corrie telling Mac he can smash her castle. He's a little excited.

Smashing!

After that, I was in the kitchen again when I heard Mac and Corrie in the living room. I came around the corner to see them with Mac's shell collection, decorating the mantle. It was very sweet. If you have small kids, you know how to savor those sweet moments when they are getting along and enjoying each other!

A few minutes later I got the kids bundled up and woke Davey from his nap so that we could get haircuts before dinner.

Several weeks ago I had overheard a conversation between moms about a kids' haircut place called "Snip Its." I would normally go for the more economical version of haircuts, but I looked online, and it just looked like so much fun.

So we went for it! It just seemed like that kind of day.

Corrie was the first one in the chair. She loved it. I think she felt very pretty, and she was :)

Davey did not want to be in the chair.

But he definitely wanted the lolly-pop and special prize at the end.

Mac loved every minute of the whole experience. It would take too long to describe it all here, but it felt to me like we were at some kind of haircut amusement park.

We made it home and were happy to have Ellis home for dinner. We enjoyed reading together on the couch before bed. I just remember being dead tired, but also thinking that this little window of time will be so short. What a blessing of a day the Lord gave us.
